Since the 1990s, we have been working to develop products with materials and components with extended service life, such as high-durability amorphous silicon drums, as part of our ongoing commitment to good environmental stewardship. In addition to developing useful functions and features, we are constantly looking to enhance and improve our products in key areas such as power consumption, component service life, and resource reuse and recycling.
ECOSYS is the Kyocera concept of creating products that are both economical and ecological, featuring long-life components and designed to minimize waste of consumables. ECOSYS represents our commitment to maintaining product development based on these principles.
Kyocera’s print solutions consume less energy than others in the market and they are built to last with long-life parts. Durable machines enjoy a reduced risk of breakdown and a longer lifespan. When devices keep up consistent quality over time, demand is reduced for new plastic parts and machines to be built. This benefits the planet and the customers who get better value for money.
The Kyocera Group is committed to environmental management and has always aimed for sustainable corporate development while striving to combine the goals of ecology and economy, hence the “ECO” in ECOSYS. The launch of the ECOSYS range essentially resulted in a much more sustainable way of printing, all the while enabling companies to cut back on their print costs.
We’re committed to helping our customers with their green goals by developing carbon neutral printing initiatives. Since 2023, all new printer and MFPs series launched by KDUK are carbon neutral as standard, older devices can be covered through a simple additional package.
We offer customers the option to offset their printers and MFPs or for those taking a Kyocera service the option to fully offset both the devices and services as a managed print service.
Kyocera can carbon offset all our devices, plus the Kyocera genuine consumables they use over the lifetime of the product. This covers all elements of production, packaging, transportation, Kyocera consumables, plus Kyocera genuine toner and device recycling. Based on these factors, we’ve calculated how much carbon needs to be offset for each device in our range.
We offset your new Kyocera devices through myclimate, the same partner we use to offset our own UK business operations.
Kyocera genuine toner has a number of environmental friendly features that set us apart from our competitors such as reduced parts, long-life and being 100% recyclable.
Kyocera’s toner systems have fewer components than other toner systems which reduces the number of components in a Kyocera toner system by over 85%, an average competitor’s toner container includes 60 separately manufactured components, while an original KYOCERA toner cassette includes just four.
Our toner ‘fuses’ on the page and prints at a lower temperature, reducing printer power consumption by up to half.
Kyocera offer a free returns service for all used, genuine KYOCERA toner cartridges. The moment your empty ECOSYS or TASKalfa consumables enter our system, Kyocera and our recycling partner will manage everything from pick-up to processing toner plastics into graded plastic beads.
After separating the cartridges into individual components, the polymers in the toner cartridge are separated and then granulated and prepared for reuse as “recyclate” which can be added to brand new materials to manufacture a variety of products.
By participating in our Toner Take-Back Service you contribute to reducing waste and energy consumption for a better environment and a better world. The service follows Kyocera’s philosophy of always considering our impact on the environment.
Our toner cassettes and product packaging are 100% recyclable. Kyocera even ID mark product parts for easy recycling.
Repeated shock resistance of paper cushioning material has previously been a weak point of paper packaging, as, unlike plastic cushioning material, paper does not generally have resilience, so its cushioning performance deteriorates over time.
We improved the repeated cushioning performance by adopting a support shape in the corrugated packaging, and a shape in pulp mould that prevents collapse and breakage.
Kyocera’s commitment to sustainable packaging has resulted in winning a number of industry awards for various aspects of our packaging, including at the WORLDSTAR Global Packaging awards in 2024, 2023 and 2021 and at the Japan Packaging Design Awards in 2024 and 2023.
Our proprietary water-based pigment inks used in the TASKalfa Pro 15000c production inkjet printer demonstrate excellent penetration into paper and dry quickly after printing. These properties have enabled us to reduce the amount of electricity consumed when fixing images onto paper.
